May 18, 2024:  10 am – 4pm

Class supplies will include (4) 125-yard skeins of yarn.

Our Yarn Dyeing Class is a collaboration between three woman owned farms in the mid-Michigan area. We have a variety of fibers available, and we all bring a unique perspective to the process. The 4 skeins that we will use in this class will include a variety of fibers: wool, alpaca, mohair and angora. This will allow everyone the opportunity to see how various fibers dye.

The class will be a 6-hour dive into dying fiber that will be held on May 18th, from 10am – 4pm. In this class you will learn the basics of dying fiber and yarn.

Some of the key items will be:

– Color Theory
– Dyeing basics (types of dyes available, methods of dyeing)
– Experiencing the effects of dyes when applied to various fibers (including overdyeing)
– Create a self striping yarn
– An introduction to various techniques for applying the dye
– As a bonus we will dye some loose fiber

Class size is limited to allow you any guidance you might need for success. Coffee, tea and water will be available. Please bring your own lunch, and drink if desired. There will be a 10% discount available the day of the class for purchases made here. A barn tour will also be included. If the weather permits we will interact with the animals (feed and/or walk).
